In late 2020, the FCC awarded funding for fixed broadband internet service in unserved areas in Beaver County through the Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF). RDOF is a federally operated program through the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) designed to bring high-speed fixed broadband service to rural areas of the country that are considered unserved (25 Mbps download/3 Mbps upload). RDOF is disbursing up to $20.4 billion over 10 years. Phase I of the RDOF program started in 2020 and carriers must complete deployment of service by the eighth year of the program. Windstream is providing service to 257 RDOF locations in Beaver County. This does not include satellite locations.
